I constantly have to remind myself of this:
Career growth plans are useless, but career growth planning is everything.
That's why I use career planning to:
-Gain clarity about my direction and aspirations
-Identify specific growth areas to work on
- Build shared understanding and accountability with managers, mentors, and sponsors
I'm in a position where I can adapt to changing priorities and seize emerging opportunities without needing to stick to a rigid plan.
Logically, it makes more sense to optimize for clarity and intentional development.
This isn't for everyone though.
