If you're prone to overthinking (like me), read this.

7 proven steps to slow things down through meditation:

1/ Start with a Few Minutes

Just as a smile sets a positive tone in a conversation, begin your meditation journey with just a few minutes a day. Gradually increase the time as you become more comfortable.

2/ Embrace Skepticism

Like in any practical endeavor, it's okay to approach meditation with skepticism. Start with guided meditation app or sessions led by experienced instructors to ease into the practice.

3/ Focus on Your Breath

Practical meditation starts with mindful breathing. Find a comfortable spot, close your eyes, and pay attention to your breath. Inhale and exhale slowly, grounding yourself in the present moment.

4/ Observe Your Thoughts

Meditation is like a mirror for your mind. Just as you mirror body language in conversations to build rapport, observe your thoughts without judgment during meditation. Let them come and go, like passing clouds.

5/ Consistency is Key

Practicality means making meditation a consistent habit. Set aside a specific time each day for your practice, making it a part of your routine, just as you prioritize other tasks in your daily life.

6/ Find Common Ground Within

Practical meditation allows you to connect with your inner self. Seek common ground within your thoughts and emotions, acknowledging that you share these experiences with others.

7/ Be Kind to Yourself

Meditation is a gift of self-compassion. In your practice, be kind to yourself. If your mind wanders or you become restless, gently bring your focus back to your breath.

These practical insights are inspired by "Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics: A 10% Happier How-To Book" by Dan Harris and Jeff Warren, and brought to you by Omar's Desk.
