Happy New Year! From Omar's desk - a recommended read for this week is: Zero to One - Notes on Startups, or to Build the Future by Peter Thiel, with Blake Masters.
Why? This book presents Peter's seminal work on how to build companies that go from 0 to 1 and create new things. It draws on his vast experience across a vast variety of businesses (e.g. PayPal, Palantir) as well as investments (e.g. Facebook, SpaceX, Stripe). As innovation does not by definition have a formula/recipe, this books presents first principles that guide it. As Peter concludes in his book: "Our task today is to find singular ways to create the new things that will make the future not just different, but better - to go from 0 to 1. The essential first step is to think for yourself. Only by seeing our world anew, as fresh and strange as it was to the ancients who saw it first, can we both re-create it and preserve it for the future". An invaluable read for leaders of companies of any size and within any industry on topics of innovation, start-ups, leadership, growth, endurance and creating value.
