After 6.5 incredible years leading technology at Amazon Payment Services,
I am taking up a new internal career opportunity.
5 invaluable lessons on navigating career moves (from my journey to Director):
1/ Be clear on your "investment" hypothesis.
What are you bringing to the role?
What will you get?
This clarity enables high performance.
More importantly, it drives happiness and fulfillment.
2/ Trust that the path will emerge.
As Rumi said, "As you start to walk on the way, the way appears."
You don't need to see the entire journey.
Just the first few steps.
With clarity. With support.
3/ Have conviction in your vision.
Throughout this journey, people told me this role wouldn't get me far.
They were wrong.
Not everyone will see what you see.
That's OK.
4/ Build in a way that your team doesn't need you.
Make them better by having you there.
But make sure they can thrive when you're gone.
Win for you: growth isn't limited.
Win for them: they develop leadership.
Win for the company: sustainable strength.
5/ Know when it's time to move on.
When your investment hypothesis has played out.
When your team can stand strong without you.
When new challenges are calling.
The hardest part?
Leaving when things are going well.
I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who's been part of this amazing journey.
PS: Extremely excited about what's next. More to come on that soon.
