Most feedback in the workplace is useless.
I see it every day.
"You should be more proactive."
"You need to show more leadership."
"Your executive presence needs work."
Vague.
Unhelpful.
Ego-driven.
Want to give feedback that actually creates change?
Use this filter - courtesy of my friend Natalia Cano:
Is It Kind?
Not sugar-coated.
KIND.
Will this energize or deflate them?
→ Brutality isn't honesty.
Is It True?
Not opinion.
FACT.
Are you sharing observed behavior or assumptions?
→ "I noticed" vs. "I think you are"
Is It Necessary?
Not for your ego.
For their GROWTH.
Can they act on this feedback?
→ If they can't change it, why mention it?
That's the thing about effective feedback:
It doesn't need to be complicated.
It doesn't need to be lengthy.
It doesn't need to be painful.
It just needs to be right.
And delivered with intention.
Most people miss this.
They focus on sounding smart instead of being helpful.
They confuse criticism with coaching.
Your feedback reveals more about you than the person receiving it.
Choose wisely.
